Abstract

The text offers us the opportunity to walk through the primordial methods of physical training addressing motivational aspects such as the use of music and engagement in other activities involving physical activity. It mentions, among others, the authors Bertram(1), Björkstén(2,3), Dalchrozse(4) and the eminent professor Ling(5,6), whose methodological assumptions were so relevant for the physical preparation of Brazilian troops that the gymnasium of the then Military Center for Physical Education (1931) received its name: Ling Gymnasium(7,8).

The author deals with the theme, bringing considerations of the time that involved distinct types of exercises, sports modalities and other activities, configuring itself in a primordial analysis of methods in physical training, which have, since their origin, a connection with military physical preparation(9).
