Abstract

Introduction: Heart rate variability (HRV) is an indicator of biopsychophysiological homeostasis and has been widely used as a method of applying intensity in exercise training. It is a tool to estimate ventilatory threshold and cardiorespiratory fitness and the level of recovery of the athlete. Understanding its application in training planning is a topic of great relevance for scientists, coaches and athletes.

Objective: To present the importance of the application of HRV in the planning of aerobic training for athletes, both amateur and professional.

Conclusion: The main points found in the study are the promising applicability of HRV as a monitoring and training prescription guide for endurance athletes.
