Abstract
Introduction: Anxiety is a prevalent disorder among young adults, negatively impacting quality of life and functional performance. In this context, physical exercise has been widely investigated as a non-pharmacological strategy for reducing anxiety symptoms.
Objective: To identify and synthesize the available scientific evidence on the effects of physical activity/exercise training on anxiety symptoms present in the literature, especially in the post-pandemic context of CoViD-19.
Method: This is a narrative literature review. conducted from a search in electronic databases, including PubMed, SciELO, and LILACS, from 2020 to 2025. Descriptors related to anxiety and physical exercise were used. The inclusion criteria involved original studies, available in full, published in Portuguese and English. Duplicate studies, reviews, and articles that did not directly address the topic were excluded.
Results and Discussion: The analyzed studies demonstrated that the regular practice of physical exercise is associated with a significant reduction in anxiety levels, with emphasis on aerobic exercises and structured programs. Improvement in psychological and physiological parameters was observed, with a positive impact on mental health.
Conclusion: Physical exercise proved to be an effective strategy in reducing anxiety in young adults and can be used as a complementary approach in the clinical management of these patients.
